Downward comparison is the sociological/psychological phenomena of looking at a person worse off than you and then feeling better about yourself. A fair amount of reality TV and half hour comedies are based on it. In fact, a fair amount of my jokes are based on the audience looking at me and laughing I’m glad I’m not that guy!
You could say the American economic model hinges on that, too.
Regardless, Zach (we’re on a first-name basis ever since he appeared on the Naked Diner podcast) over at Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal has a comic that plays on social media and downward comparison.
Enjoy.
