Will Smith’s apology to comedian Chris Rock is turning heads. Mr. Smith slapped the comedian for making a joke directed at his wife at the Academy Awards. The man who won the best actor award for his role in King Richard issued the I’m sorry on his Instagram account.

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,”

And while many question Smith’s sincerity Only Joking’s cub reporter Andrew Canard obtained video evidence that the man once known as The Prince of Bel-Air means what his publicist (probably) wrote.

Here is Smith’s entire apology.

TMZ reports that the Academy is launching an investigation into the slapping:

“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”

Casual observers may wonder whether or not the investigation has anything to do with Smith’s apology. Some may even write snarky articles on the topic.

In related news, Will Smith’s ‘apology’ at the Oscars was a faith-based defense of bad behavior.
