When Mississippi Republican State Rep. Doug McLeod first announced his candidacy in 2011, he made it clear his faith defined him: “My Presbyterian Faith and my wife’s Catholic Faith unite our strong Christian family values.”
Those “family values” apparently include punching his wife because she wouldn’t have sex with him fast enough.

Police arrived at his home on Saturday night, only to find McLeod clearly wasted with a glass of alcohol in his hand.
State Rep. Douglas McLeod was arrested after he allegedly punched his wife when she failed to get undressed quickly enough when he wanted to have sex, according to an investigative report filed with the George County Sheriff’s Department.
…
Over the course of the investigation, deputies wrote in the report that the state lawmaker had punched his wife in the face, bloodying her nose. Deputies found blood on the couple’s bed and on the floor in the same room.
…
McLeod’s wife said her husband was drunk and “just snapped,” as he often does when under the influence of alcohol, the report said.
…
McLeod was taken into custody on a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence and booked in the George County jail by early Sunday morning. He is out of jail on a $1,000 signature bond.
Another woman was also at the scene and said McLeod’s wife ran to her after the incident. When McLeod came after her, he banged on the door and said if the woman didn’t open it, he would “kill her (expletive) dog.”
Pleasant Christian man, that guy.
Already, other politicians are calling for his resignation.
Rep. McLeod should resign. https://t.co/4A9QcmbD3T

… by Tuesday afternoon, House speaker Philip Gunn had also made a statement: “I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable for anyone.”
If he doesn’t resign, it’s possible he’ll be re-elected later this year. He’s currently running unopposed.
