In a story that exhibits both religious delusion and the harm that can come because of someone’s religious delusions, a lady in Pennsylvania let Jesus take the wheel as she drove into oncoming traffic because she believed God was testing her faith.

31-year-old Nadejda Reilly wasn’t worried about hurting herself because she assumed God would protect her. She also didn’t give a damn about injuring or killing anyone else… because something something religion.

So of course she caused a crash. Two innocent people were injured.

Even after the incident, Reilly didn’t understand the ramifications of her delusions.

“Reilly related God took care of her by not having her injured,” wrote Trooper Bruce Balliet in an arrest affidavit. “Reilly expressed no concerns or remorse for the victims. Reilly also stated she did not care if the other people were injured because God would have taken care of them.

Two people in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, Balliet wrote.

By her own logic, she could whip out a semi-automatic weapon and shoot it indiscriminately. If anyone gets hurt, well, it’s just part of God’s plan.

No pastor in this woman’s life has ever disabused her of those notions. Because they told her things like “God is always in control of everything,” two people nearly died for the dumbest of reasons.

Reilly has been charged with aggravated assault “and other offenses.” If she’s guilty, she needs some serious help. Her community remains in danger as long as she’s out on the road.
