Anti-LGBTQ Pastor Kevin Swanson, last seen ranting about how God was punishing the state of California with wildfires for turning “pedophiliacs and homosexuals into heroes,” has said something else idiotic.
I know. I know. I can’t believe it either.
Swanson is shocked that the film The Shape of Water won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director last weekend, because it’s a movie about a woman falling in love with a fish-man. [Insert your own Grinding Nemo joke here.]
Swanson claims this is promoting bestiality.
“The Academy Award ceremonies this week provided the best film and best director Oscar to a violation of the worst possible sexual sin mentioned in Leviticus chapter 18,” Swanson said on his radio program today. “Maybe I’ll just leave it there, I don’t want to defile the ears of my listeners. But this was another milestone in the moral degradation of Hollywood and the nation itself. What it did was it presented the ultimate sexual depravity — and, again, I don’t want anyone thinking what this is — but the ultimate sexual depravity as presented in Leviticus 18 is presented in this movie as a tender and romantic and a beautiful thing. Even saying that is just disgusting.”
Here’s another thought: It’s a movie. You’re not supposed to walk out of the theater with plans to host an orgy at an aquarium. It’s a work of fiction. You’d think a man who loves the Bible would know something about that.
Let’s make sure Swanson never sees Beauty and the Beast or else he’ll complain about inter-species breeding.
