Earlier today, the House debated a bill that would reauthorize the Family Violence and Prevention Services program that helps victims of domestic violence.
Republicans are, as usual, against this because they don’t want the government helping people, period.
But the rationale against the bill offered by Republican Rep. Bob Good of Virginia veered in a very predictable direction. Domestic violence and all other societal problems, he argued, were the result of not following the Christian God’s rules for marriage.

… nearly everything that plagues our society can be attributed to a failure to follow God’s laws for morality and His rules for and definition of marriage and family.
So… blame gay people, I guess?
Who knows. Domestic violence and other crimes regularly occur in devout Christian homes. Pastors who, by all accounts, are True Christians™ are often in the news for all kinds of horrifying things. Being a devout Christian doesn’t prevent societal problems. Just look at the damn Duggar family.
Bob Good, of all people, should know that since he’s a former fundraiser for Liberty University’s athletics program. Liberty U. is known for strictly following God’s rules… and, more recently, for ignoring or dismissing numerous claims of sexual assault by female students.
God doesn’t make anyone better. God just gives bad people an excuse to avoid being decent.
What else would you expect from an evangelical Christian Republican whose agenda consists entirely of faith-based bigotry?
