In Blount County, Tennessee, Commissioner Karen Miller has proposed a resolution asking God to spare them when He gets his revenge on the U.S. for legalizing gay marriage.

What will obviously happen to Blount County if the resolution doesn’t pass

Ring of Fire has the text:

WE adopt this Resolution before God that He pass us by in His Coming Wrath and not destroy our County as He did Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities. As the Passover Lamb was a means of salvation to the ancient Children of Israel, so we stand upon the safety of the Lamb of God to save us.

You know, even for Christians, this is a dumb idea. I guess being devout isn’t enough. They need legislative action to get God’s attention. How useless are their prayers that they need to pass this resolution? And who on the Commission is delusional enough to think God’s going to strike everyone else dead but spare them because they did some paperwork?

This idea would be laughable enough at an evangelical church. But it’s horrifying when we’re talking about elected officials who think they’re doing something useful.

When Miller ran for office in 2014, by the way, she campaigned on the idea that “Blount County’s taxpayers need accountable representation.” And yet she’s proposing a resolution that accomplishes nothing and wastes everyone’s times. (But she gets to showboat for Jesus. Which is all that seems to matter.)

The resolution will be discussed at Monday night’s meeting.
