Some of the more controversial jokes from Michelle Wolf‘s hard-hitting comedy routine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner involved Mike Pence and abortion.
A lot of people want Trump to be impeached. I do not, because just when you think Trump is awful, you remember Mike Pence. Mike Pence is what happens when Anderson Cooper isn’t gay. Mike Pence is the kind of guy that brushes his teeth and then drinks orange juice and thinks, “Mmm.”
Mike Pence is very anti-choice. He thinks abortion is murder, which, first of all, don’t knock it till you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it. You know, you’ve got to get that baby out of there.
…
Mike Pence is a weirdo though, he’s a weird little guy. He won’t meet with other women without his wife present. When people first heard that, they were like, “That’s crazy.” But now in this current climate they’re like, “That’s a good witness.”
We already know that Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn’t even crack a smile when Wolf talked about her, but what about Pence? What did he think of the jokes at his expense?
Pence sat down with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody yesterday afternoon and Brody asked him about that issue point-blank.

BRODY: … [Wolf] said about how you believe abortion is murder. I mean, it was not only untrue, but over-the-top. How tired are you of… having to defend these values…?
PENCE: I’m pro-life and I don’t apologize for it. And I couldn’t be more honored to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with the most pro-life president in my lifetime. President Donald Trump has taken one step after another to affirm this administration’s commitment to the sanctity of life.
But with regard to the critics, David, you know, it comes with the territory, you know? As the Bible says, “I count it all joy when I endure trials or criticisms.”
First of all, Brody says the line about Pence thinking abortion is murder was “not only untrue, but over-the-top.” What?! That’s completely accurate! It’s exactly what the anti-abortion crowd believes and why they frequently refer to abortion as a genocide or another Holocaust. And we know Pence thinks abortion is murder since, in 2016 while Governor of Indiana, he signed into law a bill that mandated funerals for aborted fetuses.
Secondly, that Bible verse Pence mentions comes from James 1:2:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds…
Since Pence loves his Bible so much, then surely he’s aware of what it says a few lines later in James 1:10-11:
… the rich should take pride in their humiliation — since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
Maybe he just hasn’t read that far yet…?
Then again, maybe he sees that as another reason to cling to Trump. If Jesus isn’t a fan of rich people, maybe Pence thinks he’ll be able to move into that Oval Office soon enough.
