A woman from Cary, North Carolina was arrested on Thursday after vandalizing her not-white neighbors’ cars… then heading to a local synagogue and doing the same thing.
Lisa Marie Burns spray-painted the letters “F” and “U” on one car, busted the headlight of another, wrote the same letters on the sidewalk outside Congregation Sha’arie Shalom, and threw bricks through the synagogue’s windows. That last act was caught on a doorbell camera, and she was arrested soon after.
A press release from the Cary Police Department noted that Burns “indicated her disdain for people of other religions and ethnic backgrounds.” They didn’t say what her religion was, but given her targets, it’s probably not hard to guess. (I’d bet good money on her voting preferences, too.)
She’s currently being held at the Wake County Public Safety Center after posting a $2,000 bond. If she’s eventually convicted of all the counts — damage to personal property, damage to real property, and ethnic intimidation — she could face up to 480 days in prison. And that’s before prosecutors look at any potential federal charges. Good riddance.
One of the neighbors, Payal Gir, told reporters that someone had unplugged her Christmas lights and had found broken eggs on her driveway. She didn’t know who did it, though it’s possible Burns was also responsible for that.
