Here’s an interesting TV show that will be airing in the near future…
CBS just ordered a pilot from Greg Berlanti, the guy behind The Flash and Supergirl, which centers around an atheist who becomes friends with God. (Yeah, I know, it’s confusing…)
“God Friended Me” revolves around an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he’s friended by God on Facebook. The proximity to the Holy Spirit makes him an agent of change in the lives of those around him.
Does the atheist stop being an atheist? Does God have to use his real name on Facebook? How the hell does this last for more than an episode? We’ll find out in a few months.
And then, weeks later, CBS will also air a show called Living Biblically about a “man who decides to live his life according to the Bible.” (It’s based on the fantastic book by A.J. Jacobs.)
I can’t decide if atheists will love or hate either show, but since good television contains conflict, there’s a good chance the Religious Right will complain about both. I’d call that a victory for everyone.
