Pat Robertson is wrong about many things.

Okay, he’s wrong about damn near everything.

But every now and then, he says something surprisingly reasonable… like how criminalizing pot is a horrible idea, or how Young Earth Creationists have no clue what they’re talking about.

He did it again a week after the shooting in Parkland, Florida when he called for a ban on assault weapons and expanded background checks on gun buyers.

And after this weekend’s March For Our Lives rally, Robertson was quick to praise the students from Parkland, Florida:

“I congratulate these young people on taking a stand of this nature,” he said. “God bless ’em.”

While asserting that “gun control is not going to stop the violence” and that “restricting gun purchases is not going to do any good,” Robertson was nevertheless impressed by the effort.

“Again, I congratulate these students on getting out and protesting,” he said. “God bless ’em. It’s a good step forward in our democracy.”

Yep, Robertson really said that. While he idiotically claimed gun control wouldn’t prevent further acts of gun violence, it’s not like he was walking back from his comments about an assault weapons ban.

Still, those comments included more praise for the students than we saw coming from this White House or many evangelical Christian leaders.

Being “pro-life” must only matter when we’re talking about fetuses.

Congratulations, Parkland students. You’re so damn effective, Pat Robertson went off the deep end and came back around to the other side.
