Reading Time: 2 minutes

Luis Javier Ruiz was at Pulse nightclub the fateful night of the 2016 mass shooting that took 49 lives. He was injured but made it out alive.

There’s now a sad follow-up to his story. Ruiz claims he’s no longer gay, because he’s been saved by God.

I should of been of number 50

Going through old pictures of the night of Pulse a memory were my struggles of perversion, heavy drinking to drown out everything and having promiscuous sex that led to HIV my struggles were real ! The enemy had its grip and now God has taken me from that moment and has given me Christ Jesus I’v grown to know his love in a deeper level. in this picture 2 of out of 49 my close friend on right and in back of me are no longer with us they lost there life that night. I should of been number 50 but now I have the chance to live in relationship and not religion not just loving christ but being in love with christ and sharing his love I know who I am and I am not defined with who the enemy says I use to be but who christ Jesus says I am.

He makes it sound like his friends who were killed in the massacre deserved it for sinning. As if God let 49 people die so Luis could become friends with Jesus.

It’s worth mentioning that a 2017 profile of Ruiz in a Catholic publication said he was helped in recovery efforts by Catholic Charities, a non-profit group that fights to prevent same-sex parents from adopting children. I don’t know how much he was influenced by them, but it doesn’t seem out of the question.

Claiming that he’s magically straight now is bad enough, but it gets worse. Ruiz is actually one of the headliners for an event this Saturday called Freedom March, sponsored by the Christian group “Voice of the Voiceless.”

Daren Mehl, president of the group Voice of the Voiceless, says he sees the event as “an opportunity for those of us who have a new life with Jesus to come together in fellowship and praise Him for the love and grace available to everyone who seeks it [and] to testify publicly of the life-changing grace available to leave the LGBT identity for something greater,” he told The Christian Post on Friday.

These people are using Ruiz to promote a kind of conversion therapy that even other right-wing Christians have since denounced as unscientific, harmful, and traumatic.

Ruiz literally dodged a bullet that night at Pulse. But now he’s planning to ruin the lives of other LGBTQ people. What a disgrace.

By the way, he’ll be joined on stage this weekend by Elizabeth Johnston (a.k.a. The Activist Mommy) because she always shows up when there’s a bad idea to promote, whether it’s defending alleged pedophile Roy Moore, complaining about children getting educated in school, or promoting traumatic conversion treatments that have never been shown to work.

It’s sad that someone who narrowly escaped death at a gay nightclub is now professing some of the same ideology that takes so many gay lives.
