Here’s an uplifting story I wasn’t expecting at all.
Last week, I posted a video from Pastor Rick Joyner, the head of MorningStar Ministries, who said that racism was almost defeated… until Barack Obama became president and ruined everything. He literally said “we had just about dealt with racism in America” until Obama was elected.
Awful stuff. And not surprising at all coming from Joyner.
But you know who disagrees with him?
His daughter.
Anna Jane Joyner doesn’t go into detail about everything wrong with her father’s statement other than to say it’s “deeply flawed,” but she spends the bulk of her time doing something even more powerful: She apologizes to people hurt by what he said.
… one thing I did want to do in this moment is just to say that I’m sorry to all of my black friends, and my black Christian friends, who feel deeply disturbed and hurt and bewildered and betrayed by people like my father, who in the past couple of weeks have really not stood up for what Jesus stood for and are perpetuating some very dangerous and hurtful narratives and ideas.
I wish I could change it. I’m trying my best. And I just want you to know that you aren’t alone, and that I hear you, and that I’m with you… I’m standing with you. I’m absolutely standing with you in this very serious… battle for the soul of our country.
That’s a beautiful speech. It can’t be easy to make a video like that, so she deserves a lot of respect for speaking out.
It’s nice to know that good apples can fall from rotten trees.
