I am giving a talk to the University of the Third Age in Gosport on Thursday this week. It is a whole day affair and the day starts with my talk on “What it means to be human” in the morning (which I will use to talk about the notion of personhood), followed by a talk from a psychologist, Dr Juliane Kaminski, a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, ad former group leader of the research group “Evolutionary Roots of Human Social Interaction” at the Max Planck Institute for evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. The final speaker is Dr Carl Adams, an active researcher in the School of Computing engaged in investigating information systems, mobile information systems and technologies and the impact of technology on people, organisations and society. One of his current projects involves the investigation of mobile phone technology use by different age groups.
In between speakers, there will be break-out groups with all the attendees (including members of the local school/college where it is being hosted).
This follows from a similar day on free will last year that was really well received. Obviously, they are gluttons for punishment.
Anyway, rest assured the Sorites Paradox will be invoked.
I am looking to utilise this as a talk that I can pimp around to join my other 5 or 6 topics.
