After the shooting in Parkland, Florida, it looks like more Americans are getting fed up with the go-to response of Republican politicians who offer nothing more than “thoughts and prayers” in response to these tragedies.
A Michigan woman named Fern responded to those NRA-backed politicians brilliantly:
This woman won today. I love this pic.twitter.com/cSrvAAM5RD

This move inspired several others to do the same to local politicians who have been bought by the gun lobby:
Brilliant. Sending mine to @senrobportman today.

Here's another protest we can do. Write a check to your GOP representatives, instead of an amount you write "Thoughts and Prayers" Mark out your routing and checking account number. pic.twitter.com/mEgLUkqVDt

Since @RepMcCaul and his colleagues are so generous with 'thoughts and prayers' for the victims of gun violence, his constituents had checks made out for 'thoughts and prayers' for his campaign #ThoughtsAndPrayers #EndGunViolence pic.twitter.com/bMBWEGwfKu

I am personally done with having elected officials who are unwilling to take the necessary actions to keep our nation’s children safe. I plan on sending one of these “thoughts and prayers checks” to each of my elected officials that accepts donations from the NRA. #neveragain pic.twitter.com/EZS521YbmB

Send a check for “thoughts and prayers” to @robportman @senrobportman and other @NRA flunkies who do nothing as kids die. pic.twitter.com/Ok36wHX18H

#FBR colleagues – someone has suggested sending checks filled out with thoughts and prayers to candidates taking money from the NRA. Instead of sending out your personal checks with your routing and account numbers, try sending this certificate instead: pic.twitter.com/pp7HF1hAJH

That’s incredibly clever. But as entertaining as these tweets may be, remember that their Democratic opponents need real checks, too, if you want to see the NRA pawns voted out in the next election.
