Reading Time: 6 minutes The story of Carl Lentz’ pursuit of his mistress reminded me so much of other stories I’ve heard from adulterous evangelical men that I just had to bring it here. Today, let me show you the adulterous ‘drug’ that so many married evangelical men seek, and what their example shows us.
Adultery
The Tempting of Pastor Hank in ‘This Present Darkness’ (LSP #113, Ch. 10)
Reading Time: 9 minutes I find this book fascinating still, even after all these weeks of reading and reviewing it! It simply contains so many of the seeds of what we find most tedious and grotesque about evangelicals today. As we dive into Chapter 10, we meet a femme fatale who wants her a piece of Hank. Today, Lord Snow Presides over the worst counselor in the world.
When Murder is Less Unthinkable Than Divorce
Reading Time: 10 minutes Over the years, quite a few pastors’ wives have been murdered by their husbands–and for an especially nefarious reason. I’ll show you some of those crimes today, and why they’re going to keep happening.
The Ashley Madison Hack Was a Factor in a Seminary Professor’s Suicide.
Reading Time: 6 minutes Last month, a Professor of Communications at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary took his own life. A few days ago, his family revealed the shocking news that in his suicide note, John Gibson had noted that his name was on the Ashley Madison client list that had been released by “hacktivists” only six days earlier. Depressed and wracked with fear and remorse, he took his life rather than face his “loving” tribe once the news got out. John Gibson paid the ultimate price for his culture’s impossible demands and misplaced priorities.
It’s Sunday. Do Christians Know Where Their Pastor Is?
Reading Time: 2 minutes As I’ve been doing almost every day since the Ashley Madison scandal broke, I got up and ran a quick Google search for “pastor resigns ashley madison -stetzer”. The -stetzer part is because if you try to run a search without that qualifier, you’ll get a bunch of hand-wringing posts from multitudes of Christian sites (and rather mocking non-Christian ones, obviously) quoting Ed Stetzer, who recently came out with the rather startling prediction that today, Sunday August 30th 2015, 400 pastors would be resigning from their posts because they’d turned up on the customer database for the notorious adulterers’ playground.
The Ongoing Ashley Madison Crisis: 400 Pastors Might Resign on Sunday. Maybe. Any Minute.
Reading Time: 7 minutes From Ed Stetzer, a Southern Baptist Convention leader who absolutely never gets anything seriously wrong about his religion, comes this fascinating blog post declaring that “at least 400 church leaders (pastors, elders, staff, deacons, etc.) will be resigning Sunday” because their names will be or have been found on the Ashley Madison customer database hack.
Another Professional Christian Ends Up on Ashley Madison. (And That’s Not Even the Worst Part.)
Reading Time: 9 minutes This professional Christian video blogger (or “vlogger”) showed up on Ashley Madison in their customer leak. And the funny thing is, that’s not even the worst part of this whole story. The way I see it, there is a bigger problem here than that yet another fundagelical husband was sneaking around behind his wife’s back.
… And Now We Learn About Josh Duggar’s Secret Facebook Account.
Reading Time: 6 minutes I need to be really careful about what I say. Last time we talked, I was saying that I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop about Josh Duggar. I clearly used up my allotment of “I CAN’T EVEN” statements way too early on this whole thing.
Josh Duggar, OKCupid, and Ashley Madison Walked Into a Bar…
Reading Time: 8 minutes I thought there wasn’t much of a way that a sanctimonious bigot-for-Jesus who molested and abused his own little sisters could ever seem worse, but apparently he has discovered one more avenue of attack. This dude creeps people out like it’s his very own personal mission statement.
A New Twist on the Old Story of Christian Bigots Turning Out to Be Hypocrites.
Reading Time: 7 minutes We’ve got a full post planned for tomorrow, but for now, I saw this and my eyes almost popped out of my head because this goes way way way past the normal bizarre WTFery one sees out of the Christian Right. Yes, it managed to shock me.
