The One About Porn

Reading Time: < 1 minute Blinky & Sal: the forbidden fruit of cartoons. “There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable.” – Mark Twain But seriously, who wouldn’t want a little plush Todd Almighty?

Hell Ain’t Nothing Without Satan, I Tell You!

Reading Time: 5 minutes Due to SJ on another thread making heavy going of rationality, and believing in some of the more problematic areas of Christianity, I thought I would resurrect this one. I will run a few hell and devil numbers over the next week. One of my published works, The Little Book Of Unholy Questions, is a […]

Classical theism: God’s characteristics shown as incoherent

Reading Time: 2 minutes The classical theistic components of God, his characteristics of being all-loving, all-powerful and all-knowing don’t work very well together. This has been something which I have sought to elucidate over the years, so I thought I would compile a synopsis of where we are at with the idea of OmniGod, and what he has created. These are good arguments, I believe, and I would love to see my readers interact with them, and I would love to see theists of all natures take them to task to see if they stand up. The Incoherence of Satan

Reading Time: 2 minutes Many people, particularly fundamentalists, still believe in a real and actual Satan. Of course, to everyone else, this is completely incomprehensible. And here’s one reason for why, as John Loftus sets out in his book The End of Christianity (p. 100):

Guest Post: Being an Atheist in the midst of Malawian Witchcraft

Reading Time: 12 minutes This is a fascinating account of someone I met on facebook who has interesting things to say with regard to religion and society in a part of the world which is easy to misunderstand for someone like me. I found mention of sleep paralysis interesting as I have suffered a few times with this and my sister had it badly for years. It is prevalent in African folklore and I can see how it must contribute to ideas of the supernatural.

Anyway, here is an insight into being nonreligious in a very religious and superstitious context:

The Devil maligned?

Reading Time: < 1 minute This picture has been doing the facebook rounds. It made me chortle, but also made me think about the devil, and hell. Much of my thoughts on hell have been expressed in the video below, but there are few interesting points that have come up recently which have made me think, aha, that’s interesting.
