Today, I’m bringing sad news: OnlySky is shutting down. This will be my final post here.

OnlySky launched in 2022 with grand ambitions, seeking to blend secular storytelling with journalism, commentary, and humanist philosophy. We dreamed of being a home and a haven for the world’s rising nonreligious population. We wanted to give a voice to the secular perspective, which is important and valuable yet all too often overlooked in the marketplace of ideas.

I still believe wholeheartedly in this mission. But the money wasn’t there to sustain it as a business enterprise. Alas, the demands of the market all too often clash with the moral value of a worthy cause. American Atheists threw us a lifeline, but that too has come to an end.

I’m grateful for the past two years. While it flourished, OnlySky was a pulpit for some outstanding writers. I’m honored to have had them as colleagues. I trust they’ll all go on to great things.

I’m also proud of what I created here. Over my career as a writer, I believe that some of my best work appeared on OnlySky.

Whatever happens next, I’m not going to disappear. I’m going to keep writing. My years’ worth of archives won’t vanish from the internet either. I’ll find a new home for them, which I hope to announce shortly.

For the time being, you can follow me on Mastodon, or if you prefer video, on TikTok. I also have a Patreon account where I serialized my novel Commonwealth, but I may reactivate it for new essays and fiction.

Since social media sites rise and fall, I’d recommend Daylight Atheism, my personal website—which is a placeholder at the moment, but I’ll try to spruce it up. It will always have my older essays and my books, as well as up-to-date links for my current work.

To everyone who read, commented or supported OnlySky over the last two years, thank you for being here. I appreciate the gift of your time and attention. This act is drawing to a close, but I hope our paths will cross again. Until that day, farewell and good luck!
