She graduated from the conservative Christian Grove City College with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and a desire to unlearn all the school's toxic religious teachings. She has since found a passion for reading and writing about atheism, religion, science, and social justice on her blog She Seeks Nonfiction, where she has posted every Sunday morning since 2016.
